Club Safety Guidelines
It is the policy of Voyagers Canoe Club to provide appropriate safety training, instruction and guidance to its members.
Kayaking is an adventure sport and club members have a duty to act responsibly at all times including the following:
- Take due care for their own safety and the safety of other club members
- Be safety proactive through their own behaviour, on and off the water
- Wear a helmet and buoyancy aid and carry a throw bag at all times
- Co-operate with the trip leader on and off the water
- Report any dangerous incident including an accident, which causes or may cause an injury
- Provide practical assistance to any river user
- Participate in river safety and rescue courses organised by the committee
- Report any incidents of bullying or of inappropriate behaviour to a committee member
- Respect the environmental principle of “Leave No Trace”
These guidelines serve as a reminder all club members of the importance that is given to personal safety within Voyagers Canoe Club.
